Talk about coming out of your comfort zone. I would like for everyone to try ad open up to one another and let each other know what is holding you back....what is your brick wall? We have all come so far and learned so much from one another. What is that one thing that you still think is holding you back from taking that next giant leap forward? I think sharing this information will not only alleviate some of your own burden, but it will also open up the board to solutions for breaking down your brick wall. We have each other, why not use it right?
My brick wall is eating out. There is always bread, beer, dessert, etc that several people partake. It is hard for me not to "try" something someone else has. Once I've tried it, then i have to talk myself out of not ordering the same for myself. I am successful more often than not, but that still holds me back from achieving my ultimate goals. How can i get past this? How have you gotten past this? Please share what your brick wall is! Lets all help each other!

My brick wall is wanting something sweet after I eat lunch or dinner. I just want to have "one" cookie or "one" bite of chocolate! I battle this everyday. I do give in here and there but then feel really guilty about it and let it bother me and I know this is sabotaging!

I'm with you, Kim. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don't think about my peppermint patties high up in my cupboard. . . and usually the patties win out. Just one and I'm good. Will that craving ever go away? Hmmm, do I want it to go away? (That must be a sabotaging thought.)

LOL Carol - get rid of the darn things already!! Feed 'em to your husband/kids/neighbors - heck do with them what Ann did with her pie! Of course you are going to eat them when they are lurking up there in that cupboard :)

I am going to comment on your "eating out" brick wall. I love to eat out, it is a true pleasure to me, BUT I am not going to let it derail me either.

I generally eat out with people who are totally supportive of my healthy lifestyle, which helps a lot. I don't like beer, so that is not a temptation for me, and frankly magical stars need to align for me to want dessert. After eating this way for over a year, I almost never indulge in it, and get "instant abdominal bloat" when I do - so I can sidestep that.

I try to go with friends to restaurants where I know there is something "safe" that I enjoy. About the only places I can't find what I want/like are Riverwalck, Taco Bell, and McD's hahaha. I order first, so other people's selections are not tempting me. I have a personal "rule" that I don't sample other people's food at the table (one temptation down). I put the kids' food that is leftover into a box and DO NOT TOUCH it! Same thing goes for if I have ordered too much for myself. Lastly, since I hate wasting, if I have been naughtly and got something inappropriate and brought it home, I give it to my mom. She is healthy and thin and can really do "simple solutions" style moderation and has her whole life.

If I indulge in alcohol (usually dry wine for me), I really moderate it and, because of past family issues, I rarely drink in front of my kids, so that means I consume alcohol very rarely.

But frankly the most important thing of all of the above is dining with people who are totally supportive. My best friends and my family know how I want to eat, and would even go as far as to gently question me if I'd order something that I'm not supposed to be eating. I don't see it as nagging, I see it as holding me accountable. I am ultimately the one responsible for fueling this body and I want to do it right! I am striving for 95-5% in the Paleo/Primal dept this year!!!

Hmmmm! My brick wall changes weekly. One week I crave peanut butter, the next a hoagie. Fortunately, I don't crave sweets or dairy, surprisingly. I have gone out to eat and ordered salmon or grilled chicken salad with the dressing on the side. Then I don't use it anyway. I really have been very faithful, perhaps because I want to be supportive of my paleo friends. I can't be if I don't do it myself. I did have a dunkin donuts coffee this morning and it did not agree with my stomach. Ahhh, dairy!

I have seen a change in my body since I have been doing paleo. I am actually losing fat. I really like that, so I am motivated to continue.
