Why no Dairy?

We have talked a lot about why we shouldnt eat grains, but we havent really discussed why we should not take in dairy products. As you know, both Kerri and myself do eat cheese. I know that I stay away from regular milk, yogurts, ice cream, etc. Here are a few articles to explain why thsi choice is important:

Very interesting articles. I certainly learned alot. Let me know what you found interesting. All of these lies we have been fed (pun intended) our whole lives!

I started exploring nutrition and what is good for our bodies in earnest when Victor was born (2002) and I haven't stopped. What started my journey was pressure to wean him off of my milk and onto cow's milk, which just seemed like nonsense to me - he wasn't a baby cow after all! (He actually despises cow's milk so it's a moot point). Your article illustrates that point beautifully.

When you start delving into all of this, you realize that many other countries don't have the ailments we do - such as the osteoporosis like you noted above. Here is one of my favorite links on osteoporosis (also delves into the vitamin D issue - I am careful to watch my own level, if it dips too low, I will have immune compromise).

Then when you add in the volumes of research about processed foods, grains, and inflammation, it is amazing what you find. Thanks for helping us research our choices further!

Holy Cow, Why are we just hearing about this now? Although I'm not a big milk drinker every now and then I crave a glass. Most times i dump it down the drain but thought I had to have it in the house, mostly for my cereal, which I shouldn't be eating either! However, I do enjoy a Greek yogurt for breakfast. I'm bored with veggie omlets. Any suggestions for breakfast?

I do enjoy Greek yogurt from time to time. Many Paleos do not "count" it because it is a fermented dairy, and fermented is good.

I break down dairy for myself kind of like this:

I think one reason dairy is confusing is because it should really be broken down into several categories:

Milk - Contains tons of lactose and gives some people problems; high glycemic index. I almost never use it, my daughter does like full-fat raw milk straight from the cow but doesn't drink much.

Butter -Still dairy, I do use sparingly.

Cheese - Contains almost no lactose; low glycemic index.

Cream - Is identical to milk in most ways except thicker, low lactose, and low glycemic index. I would cook with/use the cream over the milk, as it is much lower glycemic and I have been prediabetic.

I don't know too much about goat milk, as I do not have a good source for it locally.

Dairy is such a broad term that I wanted to break down my ideas about it a little more for you.

I'm not a big breakfast eater, so a little bit of bacon, eggs, or sausage would satisfy me. Many days I just eat some salad earlier in the day. I also enjoy some different egg variations such as hard-boiled and pickled by mom with real red beet juice, no fake colored eggs. You could also do a little steak if you have time.

If you really miss cereal, you can always toss some berries, seeds and/or nuts into some almond milk. With coconut milk, you can do nuts/seeds/fruit/cinnamon for a cool taste. I rarely do that just because I don't miss cereal LOL

If you have more prep time and want to try something else, there are the egg muffins I believe Nikki posted about, or you can even try something like a banana bread or pancakes with almond or cocnut flour. There are recipes online for that.

Sorry so long, hope I helped and did not confuse you!

Thanks Karen! I heard the almond & coconut flour is coming to country Harvest. I will try it! Your blogs are very informative!

Thank you for these links! It is frustrating that the media puts out false or uneducated information at the cost of our health.
