I know we have talked about 80/20 before. It makes the lifestyle easier to obtain. Now, there are differences between eating a healthy 80/20 and overdoing the 80/20. The "over doers" count their normal cheats as part of the 20 (desserts, alcohol, cheese, bread, etc). This is like saying, yes, I am living a healthy lifestyle......almost. The true 80/20 peeps will use their 20 for making healthy, alternative choices to paleo/non paleo things. I use the example of organic canned tomato sauce (healthy, not paleo), ezekiel bread (healthy alternative, not paleo), or eating too much nuts/fruits.
What i am saying is that it is a process. You may start using your 20 for cheats. Then filter in the healthy alternatives for the cheats. Once you have begun to use all of your 20 for healthy alternatives, it will make it that much easier to make smart decisions, turning that 20 into 15, the 15 into 10, and so on. So use your 20, but use it wisely! Keep up the great work and stay on track.

One of the hardest things for me about this lifestyle is not eating when you are not hungry. We are so conditioned to eat 3 meals a day. I know I only have myself and my husband to cook for but he has a hard time believing and supporting the only eat when you are hungry rule. He expects his 3 squares a day which I make him but doesn't like if I am not eating one of them. Another thing that is tough for me is throwing away food even if it is really bad for you. A big step for me was last week I was looking in my freezer and there was a half of a nutter butter peanut butter pie (decadent, the crust is made from crushed nutter butter cookies) left over from my daughter's birthday. Well i took that tempting pie and put it in the sink and ran water over it then put it in the garbage disposal! Wasteful? maybe! but it is one step closer to being not so "waist"full !!!!!!!

I am so glad you shared the pie story with everyone Ann! That was an amazing thing for you. One thing I don't need to do is waste because my mom and dad live across the street and neither of them has weight issues, so they can finish something that trickles in here.

I agree with you totally Ann. I'm not having trouble with eating the good foods. I am having trouble being mindful of why I am putting those foods in my mouth. I am starting to realize that I may not be "hungry" when I am grabbing for something. Take today for example. I was running major late, had to switch vehicles, etc. I had packed most of my food the night before (I am working 24 hours today). I am at work and realize I did not bring anything for "supper". I panicked a little, made a phone call to the oncoming coworker and they are bringing me "paleo" foods for tonight. I am feeling guilty because even though I know it's coming for me, I'm not hungry. I may not get hungry. Who knows. I just know that I have absolutely got to pay more attention to whether I am truly hungry or not. It's a learning process and I am learning everyday. But I am glad that we are all going through it together, and having similiar issues. :0)

Honestly, I've been eating the non-paleo food in my house but I can telly you that I have been eating it as sparingly as possible. The only thing I really have left are frozen Healthy Choice dinners. I always kept them as a last resort for my dinners for work if I was running late or got called to come in early & didn't have time to make anything better. I guess the good & bad is that they are lasting longer than normal. Good because that means I am not eating them but bad because they are still there. But as the non-paleo foods are used up, I just make sure they get replaced with paleo approved food. Leave a Reply. |
