Supplements....yes or no?

A very good question. Also, a very hard quetsion to answer. If you need this answer, you need to actually take a look at your diet. What nutrients do you know you are getting enough of, what are you lacking. Then, after youve figured all that out, how do you know which supplements to get? There are so many different brands!
I personally take two supplements every morning. I take a natural, cold water fish oil (omega 3's), and I take a multi-vitamin. I think mulit-vitamins are great, but you have to check the ingerdients and how much you are getting of each nutritent. Too much, and you might just be buying yourself some expensive urine! haha. I am also looking into taking Vitamin D3, and a probiotic.
Proteins? No way Jose! If you are eating right, you are getting enough protein anyway. Just like other nutrients, your body can only store so much of it. Energy booster, fat burners, pre workout drinks.....no way! Think natural, almost nothing in those things is as mother earth intended. If you fear you are in need of more protein, there are other options (hemp, vegasport, etc). If you feel you need the whey (not paleo), then make sure it is a whey protein isolate, the more organic, and smaller ingredient list the better.

What can you do instead of a pre-workout drink to help with gassing out too soon during a workout and is still paleo?

Do you have issues with "bonking" J? I can go amazingly long without gassing out on this diet, but also intend to do some more reading and investigating once it gets a little warmer.

I had this book recommended to me but haven't picked it up yet:

I normally do 9 a.m. crosstraining on an empty stomach from the night before. I may drink one cup of coffee, but eating solid foods before that kind of workout gives me sour stomach.

I do Karen, and it's probably because I go to the gym straight from work on an empty stomach. I've never heard the term "bonking" before but did a quick search of "paleo bonking" and found this useful article. http://www.paleoplan.com/2011/06-07/paleo-for-the-active-person

I stopped taking one of those pre-workout drinks because it just tastes like chemicals and I don't want that crap in me. I should probably start eating fruit or sweet potatoes before coming to the gym.

Missed you Shannon! I, too am sick now, although this is the first time all winter and I can tell *crossing fingers* that my diet is helping because everyone else is completely down & out from this but I am able to keep working at least and am just tired and have a low-grade fever and aches.

I felt much better when I was on a great-quality multivitamin and when I was doing bioidentical hormones all last year. Also had my vitamin D levels checked, and even in summer they were suboptimal, so I do supplement with daily D3. I also take omegas and extra B vitamins when I can afford to.
