I just wanted to share something that I learned and hope it will help others with their success. The first week of this challenge, I lost 7 lbs. I went at it full throttle though by eating strict paleo and doing 3 crosstrain classes, 2 spin classes, and run club a week, not to mention the walks and light exercise outside of the gym. The second week I gained 7 lbs and I did the exact same exercise routine. I spoke with Kerri and Ryan at run club and we figured out that I am not eating enough, so my body is going into starvation mode. I was usually eating a light paleo approved trail mix for breakfast which would kind of hold me over till lunch. Then eat a paleo lunch, then a dinner and maybe a paleo snack after dinner. This would be the same for exercise days too where I know I burn about 1500 calories. So for this week, I have been eating a large breakfast, then a snack when I am hungry, then lunch, then a snack, then dinner, then a snack. And when I say snack, it is almost another meal. I eat until I feel satisfied. I always thought that if I was hungry before a meal, that it was fine. I must be losing weight because I am starving. LOL. I also didn't eat late because I always heard that was bad too, but at our last meeting, Ryan explained that it was ok, because the food that we are eating on the Paleo program is food that our body knows how to digest and it is ok. Well, in making this change, where I am not hungry anymore, and eating much more food, I lost the 7 lbs again and it's only Thursday. I just wanted to share in case there is anyone else out there that thinks you have to starve to lose weight. It's not the case. EAT!

Jason, I can relate to your story so well!! The same thing happened to me when I decided to train for a half marathon. I thought how can I NOT be losing weight with all the running I was doing & I was really watching what I was eating. Being an overweight person all my life, this was hard to comprehend but this is how it was explained to me & seems to make sense & hit home. Think of your body as your vehicle. You need it to take you from place to place. You are used to "fueling" your vehicle to maintain a speed of 20 mph well now your are racing down the highway at 100mph with your new lifestyle change & workouts so you obviously need more "fuel" to keep the engine running. So just think....by summer, instead of being that old stationwagon cruising down the highway, you are going to be a sleek new sportscar racing down the highway!! :)

Shannon, to hell with that scale. Take measurements from week to week. That will be more accurate and gratifying.

Shannon, Jason is soo right!! Don't worry so much about the number on the scale, concentrate about how your clothes fit and how you feel. I can tell you that in the last year, the number on the scale hasn't been going down like I would like it to but I did go down a pants size!! Keep up the awesome work!! It will all pay off and remember what Ryan is always saying, it is a journey and the journey will be worth it!!

Hi Shannon,
I have a similar thing -- the number on the scale doesn't seem to want to budge. But i did measure my waist and hips a few weeks before I started this healthy challenge. I was shocked at the numbers, I knew that I gained weight but seeing it in inches really hit it home for me that I needed to do something. I measured myself last week because I felt like my pants were fitting a little better and I didn't feel as bloated. And would you believe -- I lost an inch on my waist and an inch on my hips! While the number on the scale gives you instant gratification of sucess, remember all of healthy things you are doing for your body and that other things are happening inside you to make you more fit. The number on the scale will come, but sometimes the inside needs to reap the benefits before the outside can. Keep it up -- you will notice and see results!!!

When I first started this adventure I told Kerri and Ryan "I wanted you guys to kick my butt". Well this week I didn't leave the gym in fear, went to Ryan's 5 o'clock cross training class, then to a spinning class. Although I can't raise my arms above my head. I FEEL GREAT!!! I know that sounds crazy but I really do. Now if I could just be brave to power walk in the freezing cold. That's next :)

The "Christmas bloat" is finally almost gone. I didn't even stray that far, but it made a huge difference in my overall well-being, and is a reminder not to cut corners with clean eating :)

I feel better and have much more energy! I only lost 5 lbs., but I am down a pants size and I don't have cravings anymore. I am actually afraid to have bread because I don't want to have to go through the withdrawl from it again. It's not worth it! I bought almond flour and coconut oil and am excited to start experimenting with new recipes. My sister- in -law has been doing this since July, so she has been quite an inspiration. I don't feel deprived at family dinners because she is doing the same thing. Hang in there everyone, we'll get to where we want to be together. It is an exciting journey!

well between trying to go hard core "palio" or as hard core as i can and doing at least 4 classes a week this is the coolest thing that i can report. the other day my oldest daughter said she had some jeans from her boyfriend that she thought i might like. oh boy i thought, when she brought them over for me to try them on, i asked what size they were, she replied 36's . no way havent seen a 36 since 10th grade! long story made short, not only did the fit, they fit loosely!!! wow!! thanks kerri, ryan and my "cave-peps"
