Yesterday at the meeting, Kerri brought up Primal eating and how it is a bit different. I figured some of you might have more questions about the difference. Basically, it comes down to dairy and saturated fats.
On Paleo, you try and avoid dairy products, whereas on Primal whole milk and dairy products are mostly accepted. On Paleo, you try and keep your meats lean, game meats preferred. The Primal blueprint is based on the thought that these people left nothing on the animal when they ate, so the fatty meat on the animal (saturated) is just as accepted. Here is a link to an article on the difference. Please feel free to ask questions on the differences, or if you have any Paleo specific questions. Week 3 continues, and you continue to persevere! http://www.livestrong.com/article/545380-difference-between-primal-and-paleo-diet/

That was very interesting and really was helpful. Many years ago, when I was at a seminar for my work, there was a nutritionist who had a lecture and part of his premise was that human bodies are not designed to handle cow's milk. His philosophy was--Cow's milk is only for cows, human milk is for human's. Our bodies are not equipped to break down the enzymes in cow's milk.

Adrianne, I consider anything that is not part of the pure paleo diet part of my "20". For example, when i eat my ezekiel toast in the morning a few times a week. Or my cheese... Then there are times when i eat a non paleo meal (although i feel horrible afterwards), like pizza. Of cours eI make up for it on my next meal, but I consider that part of my "20" as well. Really, just try to make the right choices in the moment (why planning ahead is so key). If you dont, make up for it as soon as you can, dont wait to make it right!

I also agree with the milk thing. Think about it, what other species or living thing on Earth drinks milk after infancy????? NONE! There has to be a reason why....

When I cheat, I find I'm cheating with dairy: cheese, ice cream, creamer.. And peanut butter. If I have a bad meal if say its because I chose to eat homefries or toast.

That is a really good point about the milk. I am not one of those people who drink a glass of milk a day so I am not missing it. However I have so many people say "how can this diet be healthy? You are taking out so much". But I do not feel like I am missing anything. My body feels good and everything I eat is good for me. I am finding I can live without grains and do not miss them or crave them.

I thought I was going to have a very hard time giving up the milk. I drank a glass a day if not 2-3. I have found that it really isnt that hard a lot of all the food battles Ive found so far have been mental and not really a craving. Even the cheese I used to eat daily but don't really miss it at all. The Almond Milk is fairly good too.

We have the Chocolate Almond Milk at home. It's awesome! I started us on Almond milk by buying the unsweetened (was still a little stuck on calories). It's very good. This week I bought Doug the Vanilla one to try. Don't think he has gotten in that one yet. So can't say how it is. What is everyone's thoughts (ESP us ladies) with giving up the calcium. Studies show that as we get older we need calcium to keep our bone health. I was thinking on starting a calcium supplement, but I would chat with someone whether ill need more above my daily multivitamin.

Nikki, we are not giving up calcium. We are getting it in other very good sources, such as green leafy veggies. But also, something interesting that I read in the book "The Wheat Belly Diet"--osteporosis is actually is caused by our bodies being in an acidic state. When we are eating foods that cause us to be acidic, our bodies defense mechanism kicks in an will work to keep our body in a "base" state. It will do this by using up the stored calcium in our bones, thus causing brittle bones. The foods that primarily cause our bodies to be in an acidic state are WHEAT and GRAINS! So by eliminating these things from our diet, we are helping our bone health.
