My Paleo journey/weight loss challenge

1/12/2013

A year ago I started a weight loss challenge with my family and a few friends. I picked up the Paleo diet after seeing the success that Kerri was having with it. Not only did it change my body, but it changed my mindset and the physiology i had to go along with my current lifestyle. It is hard, and it was a slow journey. However, looking back on my journey, and reflection on my pictures, I know that it was the right thing to do. I could not be where I am today without changing my lifestyle to live the Paleo culture. I will tell you that I am far from strict Paleo. As you have read on previous blogs, I do cheat, but I try to choose smart alternatives, and make up for my "poor" choices the next meal.....not the next day. I have put my before and after video below as per Kerri's instructions in hopes that it might inspire some of you to keep on the path you have started (hope you enjoy the music, haha).
Again, this was a year long journey. We are only asking you to do seven weeks. This is why we are emphasizing the mental part of it so much. It takes change to create change. If you can talk yourself into these changes now and stick with it, you will make it a more permanent change, and be better off for it. Keep up the great work, and I must say, seeing all of you today was a great inspiration to me!

I think she means "bumping" it up - as in to the top of the page, or put it as a "sticky" somewhere prominent.

I have always known you as a fit and healthy person Ryan, but seeing how you evolved physically on there plus seeing your mental transformation as well (yes it is obvious!) has been so inspirational and helpful to me when I'm having a bad time. Keep up the GREAT work! Will you be tri-ing this year with all the changes in your family?

I like how you mentioned that it is a process. After only eating clean for a few weeks I feel amazing. My body feels clean. And I am sharing this because we aren't all perfect. I cheated last night. I had an event to attend and did not eat dinner before hand, under the assumption we would be eating after. Well that didn't happen because they had food there. And no good choices. I did make bad choices and I even knew it then. I can honestly tell you I feel gross and have felt sick all day. I did not treat my body the way it should be treated. While this challenge is only 7 weeks I have already mentally chosen a new lifestyle, one that makes me feel great!

Isnt it amazing how it only took a week for your body to realize what it good for it and what isn't. It is a good thing to admit a slip. My year long challenge ended yesterday. I had what i called a "celebratory dinner," and I laid in bed at night and couldnt fall asleep because I was sick to my stomach. Being able to make up for our mistakes right away, or the next chance we get is what gets us through this process! So happy you are enjoying yourself with this Kristen!

I would like to thank all of you for the congratulations! I am very proud of myself for the transformation, even though I would love to have the tan I had at 6 months all year round....haha. It is never over. I am realizing today that now I dont have that extrinsic drive to keep going, and that it all has to be intrinsic, within myself. I truly am in this process with you guys. Support is everything! So thank you for the support!

Wow!! what an Inspiration! Thanks for sharing your adventure,Ryan.
It is so true how lousy you can feel when making bad choices and how it is not worth it to feel like crap for hours, guess we are all learning and growing through this process. Thanks everyone for all the advice and support.

Thanks for sharing this, Ryan. It definitely encourages me to keep working to see results for the long term. I often get impatient and discouraged when I think about how far I have to go to reach my goals. I just read an interesting statement: "If you're sick of starting over, stop quitting." That made me think of a recent conversation where I explained that I've done really well when I've "been on diets" similar to Paleo in the past, but that I gained weight back when I went back to "eating normally." That made me realize that I need a "new normal"! I have to commit to a lifetime of better eating. I'm enjoying this journey, and I appreciate that those of you who have experienced success are willing to share your knowledge & encouragement with the rest of us.
