If you say yes, I sure hope it's not in a can!!!! That's a definite no no!

I am posting this because after being attacked by a relentless stomach bug I had to find a means to recovering. Lost five pounds fast, certainly not the healthy way and it will return when i eat!
Of course, sleep, time, sips of water and ginger ale (which is also - no no, holy high fructose corn syrup) ...
But what food was I going to attempt to eat? Saltines aren't Paleo approved but yes, I used em. What would you eat? What is a food we can recover with?

So, in preparation for another attack which won't ever happen ;-) I plan to have homemade plain, no spices, boring chicken and rice, as is, in the freezer or a soup consistency.
Thank goodness for family! To my rescue and to my dads rescue and my nephew Sean's rescue and Chris, Nicole , Ben and Matthew's rescue! My mom, made us this bland food! Its the best bland food anyone would make, if you are having a tastey bland food cookoff! Also some ice cubes flavored w pedialyte as per my request!
Whatever you do, don't do canned!

What would I do if sick? First of all, your poor sick gut is a center of immunity, so I would go to the healthfood store and get some top-notch quality probiotic from the fridge there and take it faithfully for awhile until your system gets back on track. No probiotics that have been sitting on a shelf somewhere, you need the "good bugs" in there to do their job.

There is a natural rehydration drink called Recharge. I drank this during my last two labors, because it does not cause "sour stomach" for me like Gatorade/Powerade. Even Pedialyte, last time I looked, was full of artificial sweetener and coloring. I keep a couple of Recharge here at all times, just in case anyone gets sick.

As your tummy feels better, you can add a smoothie perhaps, using fruit and almond or coconut milk, even blending in some raw eggs if your stomach can tolerate that.

If you truly are craving/want the "comfort carbs," then I'd try to minimize the impact by going with brown rice, sprouted bread (toasted if you prefer), a lower-carb tortilla, some Dreamfield's pasta, etc. I have even craved a raw potato with the skin on when recovering from an illness...figured my body was telling me something and I scrubbed it & ate it like an apple.

Hope that helps and hope you feel better very, very soon Kerri!

I would go for some broth if my tummy was troubled, just like you did.

You can also, at the healthfood store, get natural ginger ale with no added junk in it. Kinsley's in Brodheadsville even has carbonated beverages sweetened with stevia.

I always make homemade chicken soup, lots of hot tea with honey and cyanne pepper, and watermelon when the kids get sick. when im sick i usually just grab the forbidden canned soup saltines and giner ale:) but think im probably better off fasting next time

Shannon, I love the solution for the kids. I dont however like the idea of you fasting when you are sick. Your body needs the nutrients, especially when you are sick, to keep your immune system functioning correct. Why not make some soup and freeze it? Or teach someone close to you how to make it so they may be able to do it for you? The tea with honey and cayenne is a great idea!
