Strangely enough I find the classes at DF relaxing. It's an hour that I don't have to think about things. My husband often yells at me to stop thinking. I have very few memories of my life and my kids growing up. They always ask mom do you remember the time? And I almost always reply no. I have so much of my life to work on.

I thought this program was all about losing weight. It has been so much more. I wish I had started the journey in January.

The gym recharges me to Melissa, I always come home to my family with a smile on my face, even if my body is tired my mental is recharged and refocused....it never fails! The mental 'breakthrough(s)' of this program are so much more valuable, like Kerri reminds us once we can brake some of those barriers the nutrition and exercise will follow, but if we try to do it the opposite way...almost 100% of the time we fail. With my degree in exercise science, nutrition and certifications I know what to do, but over the past 15 years my weight has fluctuated dramatically...the mental is the missing link every time, at least for me. This program has helped me stay positive, I have definitely had negative days since we started but I want more positive, i need it and I desire it. Food has a very strong hold over me, but I am learning to manage better. One bad meal no longer has to turn into a weeks worth. My tools and graditude journey pull me back to my commitment every time. Keep channeling yours they are powerful:)

My life has been pretty much nonstop stress for the past year, and just when I think it is getting better, I seem to get thrown a curveball.

I have a bunch of tools in the relaxation toolbox, but lately my favorite one is what is referred to as Progressive Muscle Relaxation.

I did a cut & paste on the instructions if you would like to try it:

Practicing progressive muscle relaxation

Most progressive muscle relaxation practitioners start at the feet and work their way up to the face. For a sequence of muscle groups to follow, see the list below.

Loosen your clothing, take off your shoes, and get comfortable.
Take a few minutes to relax, breathing in and out in slow, deep breaths.
When you’re relaxed and ready to start, shift your attention to your right foot. Take a moment to focus on the way it feels.
Slowly tense the muscles in your right foot, squeezing as tightly as you can. Hold for a count of 10.
Relax your right foot. Focus on the tension flowing away and the way your foot feels as it becomes limp and loose.
Stay in this relaxed state for a moment, breathing deeply and slowly.
When you’re ready, shift your attention to your left foot. Follow the same sequence of muscle tension and release.
Move slowly up through your body, contracting and relaxing the muscle groups as you go.
It may take some practice at first, but try not to tense muscles other than those intended.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation Sequence

The most popular sequence runs as follows:

Right foot*
Left foot
Right calf
Left calf
Right thigh
Left thigh
Hips and buttocks
Stomach
Chest
Back
Right arm and hand
Left arm and hand
Neck and shoulders
Face

* If you are left-handed you may want to begin with your left foot instead.

Will come back on here tomorrow and list some more. Relaxation techniques are the balance I need with exercise to stay away from the emotional eating.

I am having a bad night and am going to sign off now and do the above. After a while, it will become second nature to you, like anything else you practice.

2 1/2 years ago I decided to try to find inner piece. It started with leaving the job I was at for 20 years. That job was 70 hrs a week and constant stress. I gained 175 lbs, a ton of gray hair, a very negative outlook and constantly on edge with a short fuse over that time.
Now, if I feel stress, I take the dog for a walk listening to the music of my favorite composer Tim Janis.
After taking Kerri's classes, and thinking POSITIVE, it takes a lot to get me stressed out. My husband actually get mad at me for being so calm.
Everything I do at the gym I find relaxing. Even when my legs shake so much I have a hard time walking down the steps after Tabata.
Yoga with Heather is AWSOME! Her voice is so soothing. Saturday morning it helps me find center and start the week off right.
